What is Scottish Rite?

Established 200 years ago, Scottish Rite Masonry is a world-wide fraternal organization composed of men who are Freemasons.  As FreeMasons, the members of Scottish Rite hold a belief in God, are dedicated to the highest moral standards, strive to strengthen personal character, support charitable endeavors, believe in the critical importance of the family and are patriotic.

Membership is open to all adult men without regard to race, religion, national origin or social status.  The organization is not a secret society, though, like any other organization, some of its business activities are private.

Through the centuries, countless men of every walk of life have and continue to be Freemasons.  A few of the more well-known Freemasons include George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Winston Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman, Mark Twain, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Rudyard Kipling, John Wayne, Ernie Borgnine and Wisconsin's own Gov. Scott McCallum and former Gov. Tommy G. Thompson. The decision to open the doors of the Humphrey Scottish Rite Masonic Center to the community is a natural progression of our mission to serve the community.
